Historically rare and costly to produce, purple dye was extracted from sea snails. Its labour-intensive production made it became a symbol of imperial power.

Purple blends stability and energy, combining the depth of blue with the warmth of red. It adds dimension to neutrals and pairs well with grey, navy and brown. Royal purple is a colour that is expected to be seen widely this year, despite according to Who What Wear the negative associations that people have with the colour due to school uniforms.
