Cookies Policy

Our approach to cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device so it can remember things between page loads — for example, that you are signed in.

Colourcat uses two kinds of cookies. Strictly necessary cookies make the site work — for example, keeping you signed in — and are always on. Analytics cookies, set by Google Analytics, help us understand how the site is used so we can improve it — these are optional and are only set if you accept them. We do not use advertising cookies or social media cookies.

The first time you visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Nothing optional is set until you answer, rejecting is exactly as easy as accepting, and either choice is remembered on this device. You can change your mind at any time using “Manage Cookies” in the footer of every page.

Strictly necessary cookies

All of the cookies below are first-party cookies, set by Colourcat itself, and are essential for the site to work. Most of them are only set when you use your Colourcat account.

CookieWhat it doesHow long it lastsType
colourcatapi_sessionIdentifies your session with our server and keeps you signed in to your Colourcat account while you browse.24 hoursStrictly necessary
XSRF-TOKENA security token that protects signed-in actions (for example saving an item or changing your settings) against cross-site request forgery.24 hoursStrictly necessary
remember_customer_…Keeps you signed in between visits. Only set if you tick “Remember me” when signing in.30 daysStrictly necessary
customer_oauth_stateProtects the “Sign in with Google” process against forgery. Only set while a Google sign-in is in progress.5 minutesStrictly necessary

Analytics cookies (optional)

If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics sets the cookies below. They give your browser a random identifier so your visits can be counted as one visitor rather than many. We use the resulting statistics — which pages are visited, how people find us, approximate location (country or city level), and device type — to understand what is working and improve Colourcat. Google processes this information on our behalf, it is never joined to your Colourcat account, and we have switched Google's advertising features off. If you reject analytics cookies, or simply never answer the banner, Google Analytics does not run at all and none of these cookies are set.

Browser storage

Besides cookies, Colourcat stores a few small flags in your browser's local storage. colourcat.cookie-consent.v1 remembers the choice you made in the cookie banner and when you made it, so we don't ask you again on every visit. colourcat.colour-picker.save-hint.v1 records that you have seen the one-time hint shown the first time you open the colour picker, and colourcat.product-tour.v1 records that you have finished or skipped the one-time product tour. Each is a simple marker, none of them contains personal information, and they stay until you clear your browser's site data.

When you leave Colourcat

When you click a “Buy Now” link, you leave Colourcat and travel to the retailer's website through Awin, our affiliate network. After you click, Awin and the retailer may set their own cookies on their own websites to record that your visit came from Colourcat. Those cookies are governed by their privacy and cookie policies, not ours, and nothing is set on Colourcat itself. You can read more about how our affiliate links work in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Managing cookies

You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings, and clear local storage by clearing your browser's site data. Because our strictly necessary cookies are essential, blocking those will stop parts of Colourcat from working — in particular, you won't be able to sign in or save items.

You can also change your analytics choice at any time — select “Manage Cookies” in the footer and the banner will reappear. If you withdraw your acceptance, Google Analytics stops running and we delete its cookies from your browser. Because your choice is stored on this device, you will see the banner again on a different device or browser, after clearing your site data, or after twelve months, when we ask afresh.

Changes to this policy

If we start using new cookies or storage, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect. For details of how we handle personal information more generally, see our Privacy Policy.
